About AKM Electronics

AKM Electronics, Inc. is incorporated under the laws of the State of Texas, and is filed with the Secretary of State of Texas. Its headquarters is located in Lorena, TX.

About the Officers of the Corporation...

Andrew Mattei is Chief Executive Officer, CIO, General Manager, Principal Engineer, Lead Technician, and Mail Boy for AKM Electronics. Carrie Lynn Mattei is Secretary of the Board.

In his "normal" life (the one that pays the bills), Andrew is a SCADA Engineer (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition for electrical substations), but his hat is also pinned with Avaya PBX & Voice Mail Management, Cisco PIX/ASA / Router / Switch management, network security / IDS, video and badge security systems, and anything else they want to throw my way (that nobody else wants to do, it seems, ha!). He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (cum laude ;^) ) from Texas A&M University, 1993. He enjoys his wife, kids, cars, electronics, computer protocols, and learning about new cool stuff. ;) Why plug in to the car? Because it's there............

Here's our staff (Andrew T. Mattei) hard at work - notice the OBDII connector in his hand! {Picture is old... as of 3/25/08 he's 9 years old now, but is very much a computer geek :-) }

Terms and conditions of sale:

Limited warranty: The hardware that is constructed and sold by AKM Electronics, Inc. is  warrant to be free of defects for one year from date of original shipment. Your exclusive remedy is to return the hardware for repair, replacement, or refund at the option of AKM Electronics, Inc. AKM Electronics, Inc. offers no warranty on products sold in kit or bare board form, as we did not assemble and test them.

The hardware is not warrant: a) any physical damage, or operation beyond or at maximum operating specifications (above 120 degrees F or faster than the legal speed limit ;^) ) b) transportation, shipping or insurance costs. c) any repairs, except those authorized by AKM Electronics, Inc. d)damage or failure caused by or attributable to abuse, accident, misuse, improper or abnormal useage, failure to follow instructions, improper installation, alteration, lightining, water, humidity, corrisive envirnoments, or immersion in liquids. My cables also don't like fire. Right Ellis?

Care has been taken in the design of the hardware so that it will not inflict damage to either computer involved in the connection upon the unlikely failure of an internal component. If provided, the cigarette lighter adapter has an internal 2A fuse, the connection to the PCM has an array of very low current limiting resistors, and the RS232 connections are protected and isolated by the MAX232 chip. It is therefore extremely unlikely that this hardware will ever cause any damage to either computer involved in data exchange. For this reason, AKM Electronics issues this statement for Limitation of Liability: In no event will AKM Electronics,Inc. be liable for any vehicle damage (drivetrain, electrical, or otherwise), personal injury, deaths, fines, lawsuits, prosecution, lost profits, lost data, incorrect data, environmental damage, government, law and regulatory violations, or any other incidental or consequential damages that result from use or inability to use this hardware. Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of incidental or consequential damages, in all cases AKM Electronics, Inc. total liability to you for all damages will not exceed $5.00 US. Should either computer become damaged through the exclusive use of this hardware alone, AKM Electronics will gladly offer electronics repair assistance, but will not be held liable for any other costs incurred. Any use of any other cable or device will nullify this agreement (but I will still try to help!). The only components connected to this hardware are the automotive PCM and the IBM-compatible PC serial port. It is impossible for this hardware to affect any other device (this cable will not cause your ignition system to fail, for instance).

It is extremely dangerous to monitor a computer while driving a car, and is illegal in some states (like Texas). Therefore it is the recommendation of AKM Electronics, Inc. that you have the assistance of a passenger during testing procedures while in motion, to have this other person monitor any data acquisition software you may be using. Or use data logging extensively, and pay no attention to the laptop while actually driving.
